Guang Ming College - Photography Workshop

The workshop was held at 6th floor of Fo Guang Shan Mabuhay Temple last July 11-14, 2016. The workshop involves 14 selected Fo Guang College students of first year level with Mr. Jerome Bonto as the teacher, a freelance graphic designer.
On the first day, the workshop started the discussion in the characteristics of a good photographer and the qualities of a good photograph for developing standards that the participating students need to base on.
“It is not the camera, but the man behind the camera that makes a good photograph” says Teacher Jerome Bonto. This gives the students hope that after the workshop they will be able to heighten their dramatic sense to visualize picture and be able to deliver the expected outcome of the workshop through the help of different discussions and exercises they went through. They have their first class exercise about the use of the basic learning concept of photography and after they assess each other’s works to test their views in each shot.
For the next three days, the group visited areas outside the school like wet market, sports complex and zoo to expose the students to different situations to develop and expand the techniques they have learned in the workshop. With this, visual art already gained its worth in the hearts of performing arts students through various activities in line with photography.

The selected students are very thankful to Venerable Master Hsing Yun for giving them the opportunity to grow and to go beyond their fields of interest. Also, to the Venerables and devotees that never fails to support the college as they went through their journey of broadening their knowledge. The students are also grateful to Dr. Helen V. Correa for giving them the chance to explore, learn, and prove themselves that they are not good only in performing but also in visual arts as well.
